Walking with God, A Biblical Studies Class

Walking with God, A Biblical Studies Class
Welcome to this biblical studies class on walking with God.  There have been many wonderful men and women through the centuries that have walked with God and many of them are recorded and and spoken of in the scriptures.  We are going to look at a sampling of them.  We’d have to read the entire Bible to read about everybody that walked with God.  And, that is another basic premise I’ve always had: people have different views of the Bible.  Some people use it to promote their political views; some people use it to promote their moral and ethical views; some people use it to promote their dietary restrictions; some people use it to promote their approach to business.  And, the Bible does talk about all of those, and many, many, other things.  But, I’ve always felt that the real purpose of the Bible is to show us how to walk with God.  Show us how to live God’s word, show us how to listen to God, show us how to operate the power of God.  That is the whole point, because otherwise it is a bunch of stories.  And the world is full of stories.  Popular fiction these days is full of super-heroes, running around with great powers, saving the universe.  And those can be fun movies to watch or fun books to read, but nobody pretends that their all of the sudden they are going to become Spiderman and crawl up the walls.  It is just a fun story.  Whereas, when we read about Moses parting the Red Sea, or Paul raising the dead, or Jesus Christ healing a leper, those are things we can actually do.
So, it’s not just and interesting story: those are things that with the power of God, born within us, we can do.  So, that is the difference in reading the scriptures.  So, that is why I don’t spend a lot of time teaching the Bible in a way that I’m worried about your political views, your moral and ethical views, your dietary restrictions, your business practices, or a dozen other things.  And, I don’t spend a lot of time trying to find verses in the Bible to promote my point of view on those.  I could find some, but I, like most people, would probably be twisting the scriptures to what I already believe in those areas, which is what most people do.  And I’m not going to do that.  I’m going to make every effort to show you in the scriptures people that have walked with God and show you what I feel we can learn from their lives and from how they walked with God to help us walk with God.
Will I teach you everything there is to know about them? No, because I don’t know everything there is to know about them. I will simply teach you things I’ve seen in the scriptures and relate it to how I believe it can help us walk with God, and that is what you are going to get out of this class. I hope it does you some good, but I can’t promise you it will hit the nail on the head. But, my experience has been that as we look through these scriptures there will be something for everybody. Could be half of the class you relate to perfectly, the other half is either boring or doesn’t make sense. But, somebody else on the line; the part that you find boring or doesn’t make sense will hit the nail on the head for them. And, it will be exactly what they need to hear.
So, it will be a great weekend and I’m looking forward to it as a great adventure, where I’m honored and thankful to be able to read the scriptures to you, and my prayer is that they bless you as well.  So, let’s start in Session One, Page One: God With You and Now in You.  You’ll find as you read the scriptures, and you’ll see it here, when it says God is with somebody in the Old Testament, that generally means that they have the spirit of God placed upon them.  Not born-within, but placed upon them and they are walking with God.  That is saying that God is with you is the shortcut way of saying that, in most cases. So, let’s go to Judges chapter one…

I really loved this series and I love what you wrote that the whole purpose of the Word is to walk with God and what a privilege this is. After I listened to this, I saw the ” Fresh Start” teaching and sooo enjoyed that as well. Really enjoying your web site.

Thank you so much and God bless you.
