Two churches, two administrations:
John 3:29; 14:1-4 – bride; Ephesians 1:22, 23; Col. 1:18 – body
Galatians 2:11-3:14, Romans 10:4 – Christ is the end of the law.
This never quite sunk in to the first century church. As in the days of Jesus Christ, there were always those who wanted to promote legalism at the expense of the truth of God’s Word. Matthew 15:1-9.
Baptism: ceremonial washing.
Mark 7:3, 4 – vs. 4: wash, washing – baptize; Luke 11:38 – wash – baptize
Church of the bride: water
Matthew 3:5, 6 in Jordan
Something greater soon to come:
Matthew 3:11 but in contrast, baptism of holy spirit is to come later.
Matthew 28:19 baptize in my name (earliest quotations of this verse): no water is mentioned. Water has been read in by those who want to promote legalistic practices, just as others wanted to promote circumcision in the early church. This phrase used throughout Acts (check in homework assignment!)
The coming of Pentecost:
Acts 1:4-8 talking about the gift of holy spirit (no water!) They already had water from the time of John — something greater was about to come.
Acts 2:1-4 Pentecost: no water.
So where do people get water in Acts?
Acts 10:47; 11:16 Peter was about to follow his legalistic habits, until he remembered the Word of the Lord.
Acts 19:2, 3 Two baptisms: they had only heard of John’s (water).
Acts 8:38 Philip: early in Acts, grace not fully revealed.
Acts 21:20 Zealous for the law: still true today.
Baptism in holy spirit occurred on the day of Pentecost. Since then, the gift of holy spirit has been available for anyone to receive by getting born again — being baptized in the name of the Lord, cleansed in everything that name represents. Gal. 3:27, 28; I John 1:7.
Homework: look up every place the word baptize is used in the book of Acts.

Verse Listing and Notes
Mark 9:14-27 If you can believe.
Children:
Matthew 15:22-28 Canaanite woman believed for daughter.
Demented persons:
Luke 4:33-36 Man with unclean spirit in synagogue.
Dead people:
Acts 9:36-42 Peter prayed, Dorcas raised.
Two types of believing:
Matthew 9:22 Woman with issue of blood healed.
Job 3:25 Fear (negative believing) did not help. Later, believing restored all.
Synchronized life:
Mark 11:23-24 Do not doubt in heart.
(Matthew 12:34 – out of the abundance of the heart.)
Romans 8:35-39 Persuaded – confession (practical key).
Hebrews 4:2 Mixed with believing.
II Corinthians 10:3-5 Every thought to the obedience of Christ – Synchronized with God’s Word.
What we confess with our mouths will eventually make it into our hearts. What we believe in our hearts determines what we receive in our daily living. We need to synchronize our words, our actions, and our thoughts with God’s Word in order to walk in the deliverance to which God has called us

Verse Listing and Notes
The principal key in a successful Christian life is fellowship with the heavenly Father. Christians manifest the more abundant life in direct proportion to the fellowship they keep with Him. We receive sonship when we are born again. But sustained fellowship depends upon the renewing of our minds according to His Word.
II Corinthians 5:21 Through the new birth, we are righteous.
John 5:24 We have eternal life – no waiting to find out!
Romans 8:1a No condemnation.
I John 1:7 Walk in the light.
Fellowship is the one thing that makes for a happy situation both in a human and in a spiritual family.
John 15:5 Renewing the mind brings much fruit.
When a son is out of fellowship with God, he is not able to get prayers answered. God is not unwilling to answer His son’s request, but the broken fellowship on the part of the son leaves his confidence in God shaky and uncertain.
I John 3:21,22 Confidence toward God.
Whenever and wherever sons fail to get prayers answered the cause is broken fellowship, either from not knowing or not living The Word. God is faithful who has promised and He will bring it to pass; thus, if it does not come to pass it is due to a flaw on the man’s part.
When a son of God is out of fellowship with his heavenly Father, nothing will work; but when fellowship is restored, things begin to operate.
I John 1:3-2:2,2:6 For born again ones, sin is broken fellowship.
Sonship is God’s permanent relationship with us.
Fellowship is our continued relationship with God.
Romans 12:2 Not conformed to this world.
Philippians 2:5 Put on the thoughts of Christ.
Col. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.
To the extent that The Word richly dwells in us we have fellowship with God. To the extent that we believe and act according to God’s Word, our lives will be full, rich and fruitful because our fellowship with God is strong. We then have confidence toward God. When we know and live His Word we are doing His will.

Verse Lising and Notes
“The legal right to use the name of the person who has given you the power.”
Ephesians 1:17-23. Exceeding greatness of power in Christ.
Three reasons for the power in the name of Jesus Christ:
Jesus inherited a more excellent name than any other in heaven and in earth: he was the only begotten of the Father. Heb. 1:4,5. Romans 8:17 – Heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.
God gave Jesus a name which is above every name. Philippians 2:9,10.
Jesus acquired for himself a name above every name. Ephesians 4:8. Col. 2:15.
The power which Jesus acquired is the legal right of every born-again believer. But for a believer to manifest Christ’s power in his life, he must renew his mind according to the Word of God. Rom. 12:2.
Matthew 1:21. Jesus: savior.
Acts 4:12. No salvation in any other.
Acts 2:38. In the name of Jesus Christ, gift of holy spirit.
John 14:13, 14. Whatsoever you shall ask in my name.
Acts 3:6,7. Rise up and walk. Acts 3:16.
Acts 16:16-18. Spirit cast out.
Colossians 3:17. Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Ephesians 5:20. Giving thanks in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 4:19. All needs supplied by way of Christ Jesus.
