Look Out! (#983)
This morning we’re going to talk about what to look out for. Sometimes you’re crossing the street, or you’re about to bump your head like I did twice yesterday getting in and out of the crawl space under my house. And somebody says: Look out! And sometimes it is a quick look-out, like: “Duck!” Other times it is looking forward more, like we’re up to New Year’s resolution time and people look forward and say: “well know last year I didn’t do so well in this part of my life so in this coming year I’m determined to do better.” And they talk about New Year’s resolutions. And we kid about it at the Gym because in January there are about twice as many people as the rest of the year. But, by the time to you get to February/March, the New Year’s resolutions have often worn off and it is back to the normal group. And that’s often the case there and I’m sure we’ve all looked forward where we have intentions to do things and sometimes we do them and sometimes we don’t. But we’re all looking out for something, whether it’s not bumping your head, whether its a study project, a work project, an exercise project; we all have things we are looking forward to.
So, we’ll talk about looking out, but not in terms of New Year’s resolutions. But, looking for what God can do for us. So, when we look at the coming year, because we are starting a new year in just a few days as you know, we’re looking forward to the great things God can and will for us. We’re not saying: “oh my gosh, another year where I have to deal with this;” or “another year where I have to wrestle with this problem;” “another year where I have to put up with that person again.” No, no, we do have to address those things, but those should be small noise in the background. The big things in the front of our mind, should; be God will take care of you this year. God will do mighty, wonderful things for me; this will be my best year ever; because God will do such great things for us. That is what we should be looking for. So, we’ll read a few very familiar verses that we’ve read in the last few months and we’ll some that we haven’t read for quite a while. A nice combination of them; something old, something new; it will be very fun. So let’s start in Psalms 27…
